>> final preparations are underway for the memorial take place today for two fallen santa cruz officers killed in the line of cute. abc7 news reporter, cornell bernard, joins us from the boardwalk where the procession will start in three hours. >> preparations are underway to say goodbye to two local heroes. it begins here at the santa cruz beach boardwalk where a police motorcade process will begin at 8:45 to the public memorial in san jose. can you see members of sheriff department is gathering, the motorcade will be two miles along, a tribute to the two officers killed in the line of duty by an armed suspect. the flag-draped caskets were part of a public viewing with hundreds of mounters came to pay respects to the officers who

protected their community for many years. >> first time here that our local officers were gunned down the it is a terrible thing. >> i am paying my respects. it is a good thing people are coming down here and supporting the local police officers. >> public viewing sites will watch the memorial here at santa cruz. kaiser permanente arena opens at 10:00 a.m. and they will show the service live. the delmar theater opens at 11 a.m. with parking at depot park free and the hook-and-ladder trucks will be staged on all overpasses teen santa cruz and san jose with american flags to on the fall were officers. >> cornell, thank you. thousands of people are expected to turnout for the actual memorial service which is at

h.p. pavillion in san jose, with a live look outside at patville beyond, crews spent the day preparing for the service today with several dignitaries expected including governor brown, state attorney general, and former defense secretary, panetta. as we have been reporting, they leave santa cruz at 8:45 and it is expected to get to san jose between 10:30 and 11:00 with guests scheduled to arrive between 11:00 and 12:00. the memorial service will begin at noon and it will last several hours. >> hundreds of officers are expected it take part in the motorcade procession when it begins at 8:45 and the procession is expected to stretch up to two miles long, not one mile as originally believed. here is a closer look from the boardwalk, the motorcade will head north on highway 17 over the santa cruz mountains to highway 85 and north on highway 87 to h.p. pavilion in san jose. we will carry the service live

deputies found her severely injured but the lion was blocking the body and they had to shot the animal to reach her. she died in the end closure. her father, paul hanson, spoke with abc7 news over the phone and says he feared that his daughter would be attacked. >> anyone who worked with cats know they are wild animals. they can turn. even on people that are closest. i always had this horrible, nagging premonition i would get a call like this. >> stills hanson maintains it was his daughter's lifelong dream. this internship was a hopeful 20 to get a full time job at a bigger view. as the express continues the 100 acre private zoo is closed to the public. in the newsroom for kira klapper, for abc7 news. >> a local pet food company is doubling the reward for catching those responsible for poisoning a k-9 member the richmond police department. pet food express headquartered in east oakland is matching the

>> we are back at 6:10, and live doppler 7 hd shows a few radar runs at point reyes. these are just sprinkles. looking to the southwest you can see the yellow at 26 miles from the coast and 46 miles from petaluma. that has been the case the last couple of hours but it is falling apart. our temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 50's and the scattered showers will be nor numerous tomorrow afternoon than they were yesterday morning. by friday, saturday, and sunday, a dry push of air and temperatures are back to seasonal level on saturday and maybe above on sunday.

now in san francisco is 47, and we are at 44 in oakland and dress for 43 in san carlos and san jose and santa cruz all at 41 degrees. now, today, increasing showers you will need the wet weather gear as the day progresses. unlike yesterday we had most of the rain in the morning we will have most of it in the afternoon. dry air arrives tomorrow and another area of extended dry air and warmer-than-average extended temperatures. the second low we talked about, act two, coming through today, and here is the timetable, clouds in the rain are close to the north bay as we head to 7:00, pushing in by 9:00. you can see by noon, all of us especially around the bay and closer to the coast coming in from 9 west are going to be wet. the further you are to the east the lighter the sures are with the lighter green but that 8 rotate your way in the evening, also, and later in the evening. then it becomes more scattered with a slow sinking to the south and we wake up with cloud and

loran "butch" baker and elizabeth butler killed in the line of duty february 26 by an armed 17. last night, the flag draped cassettes were part of a viewing with hundreds mourners maying their respect. police from around the country will be at the memorial today. >> we have had departments from all over the united states, actually. we have a gentleman here, a lieutenant from idaho. we have officers coming, i believe, from canada. it is from across the nation. >> the police motorcade will begin in santa cruz at 8:45 but will start at 3rd street near riverside and over to ocean street, and to highway 17, over the santa cruz mountains, to san jose. row session -- the procession will travel to 87 north exiting the at julian street to autumn

and into the h.p. pavillion for the memorial. fire trucks will line every single overpass between here and san jose displaying american flags, a tribute to the officers, a moving sight. >> our team coverage continues with amy hollyfield who is live outside the h.p. pavilion in san jose. >> good morning, katie. organizers realized having it here in san jose at h.p. pavilion is an incon season conference for santa cruz residents and the police department but there was no other option. here is a look inside the pavilion, they needed the size. it can hold 19,000 people. the officers from across the country are expected to be here and they think they will need the seats. here is the schedule for this morning: at 8:45 the procession will start from santa cruz. it is expected to arrive at san

jose at 10:30 or 11:00, at 1:00, the guests will arrive at the pavilion and at it will noon the memorial service will start. there will be dignitaries in the crowd and they include governor brown, attorney general harris, former defense secretary panetta, and congressman sam farr and a local celebrity, james durbin the "american idol" finalist from santa cruz. the whole town cheered him on. he will sing to pay tribute to the officers. officials expect traffic to be congested after the service as people head back to santa cruz and the afternoon commute is starting to get going. they are asking people to be patient today, to plan for this, and to be patient. it will be a very sad day here in san jose. >> thank you, amy hollyfield. >> the final arrangements are in
